What is it?

XTRAC laser is a targeted form of UVB phototherapy commonly used to treat chronic skin conditions such as vitiligo, psoriasis and lichen planus. While not a cure, this laser-based treatment can significantly reduce the severity of symptoms and improve skin clarity. The XTRAC laser emits a single wavelength of UVB light, allowing it to treat only the affected areas without exposing surrounding healthy skin to unnecessary UV radiation.

This therapy has been used safely and successfully for years, with many patients achieving long-term remission. Clinical studies have shown that some individuals experience noticeable improvement within 10 sessions, though full control may require up to 30 treatments. Most patients begin with two sessions per week, and because each case is unique, the total number of treatments and time to achieve clearance will vary based on individual response.

Note: Only our Myrtle Beach and 7th Street Charlotte offices offer the XTRAC laser.

What to expect

When receiving treatment with the XTRAC laser at our office, you can expect a quick, non-invasive procedure. The board-certified dermatology provider will use a handheld device to deliver a focused beam of UVB light directly to the affected areas, minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy skin. Most sessions last only a few minutes and are generally painless, though some patients may experience mild redness or irritation afterward.
